How to Perform Signature Detection in VIDIZMO

Signature detection identifies and locates signatures in your content. VIDIZMO Vision Indexer allows you to perform signature detection on the files uploaded to your Portal.

Once detected, the generated signature metadata can be used to redact signatures to help ensure privacy and security, or to enable a search for content in your Portal that contains signatures.

This article covers how to perform signature detection using the VIDIZMO Vision Indexer, including automatic and on-demand processing, and redaction of detected signatures.

For a comprehensive guide on object redaction for all detection classes, see How to Perform Object Redaction using VIDIZMO Vision Indexer.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure the VIDIZMO Vision Indexer is configured and enabled for Signature Detection. For configuration instructions, refer to Configuring VIDIZMO Vision Indexer for Object Detection

  • You need to be part of a group with feature permissions for Signature Detection and the necessary permissions for processing your content, such as Upload and Manage My Content. For more information about feature permissions, see Enable Features in the VIDIZMO Portal

  • To redact detected signatures, you must have the Redaction or Bulk Redaction feature permissions.

  • To perform on-demand processing during upload, Custom Upload must be enabled. Refer to How to Custom Upload Media for more details.

Signature Detection via Automatic Processing

Automatic processing in VIDIZMO analyzes content added to your Portal based on the detection types configured in the VIDIZMO Vision Indexer.

If Signature Detection is enabled in your VIDIZMO Vision Indexer configuration, any newly added content is automatically processed for signature detection. When signatures are detected, they appear as detected objects or insights that you can view on the content’s Playback page.

If you’ve set up automatic processing in the VIDIZMO Vision Indexer, the system automatically initiates the appropriate workflow (Detection or Redaction)whenever files are uploaded to the portal. Based on your configuration in the Vision Indexer app, the file will be processed to either detect or redact signatures during the upload process.

Automatic signature detection or redaction occurs in the following scenarios:

  • When content is uploaded to your portal.

  • When content is ingested.

  • When a copy of the content is created.

  • When a VIDIZMO Live session is saved and published as a recording.

For configuration instructions, see Configuring VIDIZMO Vision Indexer for Object Detection.

  1. Click the + Add New button and select Upload Media to upload new content.

  1. After the file uploads, processing for signature detection starts automatically.

  1. After the content is processed, select it to open its playback page.

  1. The detected signatures appear in the Insights tab. In cases of videos, you can select these detections to jump to their timestamp. If automatic redaction is configured in the app, the redaction will also be applied simultaneously according to the settings defined in the Vision Indexer.

Note: You can search for content that contains signatures. Type signature in the search bar. For more information, see Understanding Search in VIDIZMO.

Signature Detection via On-Demand Processing

In addition to automatic processing, you can perform on-demand signature detection during content upload or via the Process Modal. Once detected, signature redaction and detection are performed simultaneously.

  • On-Demand Processing During Upload
  1. Ensure that Custom Upload is enabled on your Portal and upload your content. The interface varies depending on which Portal you are using. EnterpriseTube users get the Process tab, while DEMS or Redaction users get Advanced Upload.

  1. Once the file is uploaded, switch to the Process tab.

  2. Select Generate AI Insights.

  3. In the Insights field, select Object Detection.

  4. In Object Detection Classes, select Signature.

  5. In Redaction Classes, select Object Detection.

  6. In Redaction SubType Classes, select Signature.

  7. Set the Confidence Threshold for Redaction to specify the minimum detection confidence level required for redaction to occur.

  8. Select Action for Original File to determine how the original file is handled after redaction.

  9. Click Save and Process to begin processing.

  1. If you selected detection only (without redaction classes), the file remains available based on your settings. You can view the detected signatures in the Library or on the Playback page.

If you selected redaction, the system generates a redacted version of the file based on the action specified for the original file.

  • On-Demand Processing from the Process Modal
  1. To process content already in your Portal library, click Process from its overflow menu.
  2. You can also perform bulk processing by selecting multiple files and using the Process option from the header menu.

  1. In the Process modal, select Generate AI Insights.

  2. In the Insights field, select Object Detection.

  3. In Object Detection Classes, select Signature.

  4. In Redaction Classes, select Object Detection.

  5. In Redaction SubType Classes, select Signature.

  6. Set the Confidence Threshold for Redaction to specify the minimum confidence level required for redaction.

  7. Select Action for Original File to determine how the original file is handled.

  8. Click Start to initiate the signature detection and redaction process.

  1. When processing completes, open the file to view redacted signatures on the playback page.

Signature Detection in Studio Space

In Studio Space, you can detect and redact signatures either manually or automatically. Manual redaction allows you to review detected signatures and selectively redact specific instances from your content as needed.

  1. In the Library, select the more options (⋮) menu next to the file name.
  2. Select "Redact using Studio."

  1. You can redact signatures in Studio Space either manually or automatically.

To manually redact signatures:

i. From the header, select the Signature Detection class. ii. Draw a bounding box around the signature you want to redact. The object appears under the selected tab. iii. Select the detected object, then choose Redact to apply the redaction.

To automatically detect and redact signatures:

i. In Studio Space, select Auto Detect from the header.

ii. Configure the following fields:

  • Detection Types: Select Object Detection.
  • Object Detection Classes: Select Signature.
  • Redaction Types: Select Object Detection.
  • Redaction SubType Classes: Select Signature.
  • Confidence Threshold for Redaction: Set the minimum confidence level (e.g., 10).
  • Action for Original File: Select how the original file is handled.

iii. Click Start to begin the automatic detection process. iv. Select Publish to save and finalize the redacted file.
