How to Add, Edit or Delete a Player Template
VIDIZMO allows users to brand their players according to various different use-cases as per customer needs. Through creating individual player templates, you get the ability to custom-choose controls on your player, toggle on/off whether someone can select different quality renditions of a video, configure if a video/audio should play as muted by default until unmuted by the user, switch on/off subtitles control from the player options and much more. These rich customization options help in employee/customer compliance with your organizational goals and relevant use-cases. Branding also helps familiarize viewers with the content and creates an environment tailored to their needs.
To learn more about it, see Understanding Player Templates.
Prerequisites
- Ensure you belong to a group with the Player Template Management feature enabled, or have a CAL that grants this permission. This feature allows users to manage player templates.
You cannot edit or delete built-in player templates. This is to help the application fall back to a default player template in case all custom-created templates are deleted.
When you update a player template, the settings for previously uploaded media on which the template applies are not automatically updated. However, you can select Update all Media on which this template applies for the changes to reflect in previously uploaded media as well.
Navigate to Player Templates
- Select the navigation menu on the top left of the screen.
- Expand Admin.
- Select Portal Settings.
- Expand Branding.
- Select Player Template.
Add Player Template
- On the Player Template screen, select Add Player Template.
- Enter the Title of the player template.
- Select the Media Format for which you wish to use this template. Options include Audio, Video, Live, Playlist, Collection and Category.
- Select the Player Type. VIDIZMO provides you with the flexibility of integrating your own player with the video content management portal. By default, VIDIZMO Player is configured.
- Next, you are going to see a list of options appear according to the file format you chose to create a template for, namely Playback Behavior, Action Control, Added Insights, Playback Speed, Seek Forward or Seek Backward. Options vary for all file formats helping you set various settings for different use-cases to optimize user experience. To learn more about the options and how each of them helps organizations to enhance user engagement and interactivity, see Customization Options in Player Templates.
- Next, for every template you can write custom CSS code to redesign your own player from scratch. From the player's seek bar to the settings menu, everything in the player can be customized to suit an organization's brand values and design standards. To learn more about VIDIZMO's powerful branding options, see Understanding Customized Branding for Player.
- Enabling the check for Default Media Template sets this template as your default player template. This means that from this point onward, every media uploaded in the portal has this template applied unless an alternative is selected by the user at the time of media upload, or while reconfiguring media settings. To learn more about it, see How to Change Default Player Template.
- Select Save and Close.
A notification displays stating Player Template Added Successfully.
Edit Player Template
- On the Player Template screen, navigate to the template you want to update.
- Hover over the template to see the control icons appear at the end of the row. Select the edit icon.
- Update the Title of the player template to suit the changes you are about to make.
- Select a different Media Format from the dropdown menu if needed.
- You can also change the Player Type to play back media using another HTML player of your choice.
- Update the customization options configured against the player template. To learn more about how each of them can help contextualize media player and enhance user experience, see Customization Options in Player Templates.
- Use the custom CSS section to write updated custom CSS to change colors and styling of various elements of the player's user interface using the SASS template explained in detail in Understanding Customized Branding for Player.
- Enable the check to make this template your Default Media Template.
- The option Update all Media on which this Player Template Applies gives you an added ability to choose whether or not you wish to update these settings for previously uploaded media on which this template applies. If you uncheck this option, the previously uploaded media's template preserves its settings, while updating the settings on all media uploads henceforth.
- Select Save to view updated changes on the player in a new tab. This helps you cross-check enabled settings, test if you are satisfied with the configuration, and make more adaptations while you are designing your own player experience.
