How to View Case Chain of Custody
In VIDIZMO Digital Evidence Management DEM system, a case is a collection of all types of digital evidence related to a crime which includes images, videos from surveillance cameras, crime scene documentation, voice call recordings, etc. A case can create a holistic incident view, allowing for all relevant digital evidence tied to a single entity to be easily found, processed and packaged for judicial partners – saving valuable time and resources. One of the greatest concerns associated with Case management is its Chain of Custody, the absence of which can create complexities a few of them can be;
- Who deleted evidence from the case?
- From which IP Address digital forensic was last modified within that case?
- What was the case creation date?
- Which updates have been incorporated in the case along with timestamp?
- Who assigned a case from one officer to another?
Prerequisites
- Ensure you belong to a group with Content Chain of Custody feature enabled, or have a CAL that grants this feature's permission. By default, this feature is enabled in the Content Manager group for all Portal content. In addition, the feature that lets users view chain of custody of their content only is enabled in the Contributor group.
View Case Chain of Custody
- From your DEM Portal's homepage, go to the cases view.
- Select the overflow menu (three dots) on the case you want to view the audit trail for.
- Select Chain of Custody. The detailed audit trail view for that case appears.
The Chain of Custody screen displays all actions performed on that case with the following columns:
- User: The name of the user who committed the changes in the case (e.g., creating, updating, deleting case).
- IP Address: The IP address of the system from where the changes were committed.
- Date and Time: The timestamp at which the changes were made. Select the arrow icon on this column to sort by date and time.
- Event: The type of change or update committed against the case.
- Details: A brief description of the changes committed by a user at the specific timestamp.
Download Case Chain of Custody
The case audit trail can be downloaded in PDF or CSV format.
- Select the Download button on the top-right corner of the Chain of Custody screen.
- Select Export to PDF or Export to CSV.
Toggle Between Compact and Detailed View
By default, VIDIZMO DEM provides the Compact View of Chain of Custody, which groups all changes for an event in a single row. The Detailed View displays each change as a separate row.
Select the Detailed View or Compact View button next to the Download button to toggle between views.
